Piercing Aftercare
At The One Tattoo, we are committed to providing safe and professional piercing services. Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your piercing heals correctly and remains healthy. Follow these guidelines to protect your new piercing and promote smooth healing.
How to Clean Your Piercing
Wash Your Hands – Always clean your hands before touching your piercing.
Use Sterile Saline Solution – Spray or rinse your piercing twice daily with a sterile saline solution labeled for wound care. Avoid making your own saline mix.
Gently Dry the Area – Use clean gauze or cotton swabs to remove any crusting. Avoid towels, as they can harbor bacteria.
What to Avoid
Do not remove jewelry early – Even healed piercings can close quickly.
Avoid touching or twisting the jewelry – This can cause irritation and delay healing.
Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or ointments – These can dry out the piercing and damage healing tissue.
Avoid swimming in pools, lakes, and hot tubs – Submerging your piercing in water can introduce bacteria. If necessary, use a waterproof dressing.
Do not apply makeup, lotions, or perfumes near the piercing site.
What to Expect During Healing
Mild swelling, redness, and tenderness are normal in the first few days.
Clear or whitish-yellow fluid may form a slight crust around the jewelry—this is part of the healing process.
The piercing may appear healed on the outside before the inside is fully recovered. Continue aftercare for the recommended time.
Additional Tips for Specific Piercings
Navel Piercings – Wear loose-fitting clothing and avoid irritation from belts or waistbands.
Ear & Facial Piercings – Change your pillowcase frequently and clean items like headphones and glasses.
Oral Piercings – Rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash after eating, drinking, or smoking. Avoid spicy foods and excessive alcohol.
Nipple Piercings – A snug cotton sports bra may help reduce irritation and movement during healing.
